Volunteer Opportunities
|
|
Step into History: The new year brings many opportunities to get involved.
Whether your interest lies in vintage maps, photography, technology or gardening, HTHS has an opportunity for you to step up and get involved with us. As an organization that relies solely on volunteers, HTHS values highly the contributions made by members to our ongoing mission of promoting and preserving the history of Haverford Township. There are many volunteer projects currently underway that could use your talents, whatever they may be. You may have interest in a particular project or historical topic, or simply be interested in “helping out” when you have free time now and then. Whatever the case, your participation is welcome. Contact Tricia Woodman at johnwman@msn.com for more information about ways you can channel your interest.

Haverford Township Heritage Festival - Planned for May 2007
Mark your calendars. HTHS has kicked off the planning for a festival along Karakung Drive to celebrate and promote Haverford Township’s cultural heritage and rich local history. In addition to tours of historic Nitre Hall and Lawrence Cabin, visitors will enjoy food, music, speakers on topics of historical interest as well as demonstrations of colonial-era tasks and crafts. Local artisans will display their wares and local organizations will be invited to provide exhibits of their own contributions to Haverford Township’s history and ongoing development. Contact Tricia Woodman at johnwman@msn.com for information about how you can get involved.

Needed: Persons with an interest in photography.
Do you have an eye for photos? Today’s neighborhoods, businesses and events are tomorrow’s history. We all enjoy looking at pictures from 30, 50 or 100 years ago - HTHS has a mission to preserve images from Haverford Township as we know it today. If you are interested in assisting in this effort, please contact Carol Joseph at cjoseph01@msn.com.

Archives Projects to Begin
In an effort to make HTHS archives more accessible, a number of projects will be getting underway soon including:
* “Dusting off” and re-organizing artifacts from our collection at Nitre Hall; * Compiling a searchable database to be put online of all artifacts, articles and ephemera from our collection; * Installing new software to better track and maintain HTHS data and information; * Assessing the archives to create new exhibits; and * Establishing “library hours” to open the archives on a regular basis to people doing research.
If any of these initiatives appeals to your inner historian, contact Tricia Woodman at johnwman@msn.com.
